Valheim Deep North: release date, location and preparation

Valheim's Deep North released on September 9, 2026 with version 1.0. It is the northern endgame biome, following the Ashlands in boss progression and leading to Kall Fimbulbringer. Sail north, prepare beyond your earlier-biome equipment, and check unexplored ground if you are continuing a world created before the update.

When did the Deep North update release?

Deep North arrived with Valheim 1.0 on September 9, 2026. It is available content rather than a future roadmap biome. The 1.0 release guide covers the broader update, including existing-save and mod questions.

Where is Deep North on the map?

Deep North occupies the far northern part of the world. Open your world in the seed map to inspect the northern land and sea before choosing a landing point. Search the biome or a named location rather than assuming that two different world seeds share the same shoreline.

A seed view helps plan the route. A loaded saved world is the better choice when you need to preserve what you have already discovered. The seed map guide explains both ways to open a world.

What should you do before going north?

Finish your Ashlands progression and prepare around the next fight. The boss order guide places Fader before Kall Fimbulbringer. Bring equipment, food and materials you can replace if the landing goes badly, and establish a practical return route before travelling deeper inland.

Use the loadout and food planner to compare health, stamina and eitr for the equipment you actually have. A magic loadout and a melee loadout need different food priorities. The weapon comparison lets you inspect damage against a selected creature rather than treating a late-game weapon as universally best.

What resources and crafting should you look for?

Bloodgold is part of the northern equipment chain. Its production involves the Frost Foundry, so finding the raw materials is only part of the job. Follow the Bloodgold item page to its sources and the Frost Foundry page to the station requirements before committing to a new weapon recipe.

Neckstabber and Witch Crown are northern trinkets crafted at the Black Forge with Bloodgold. The trinket guide explains their adrenaline trigger and how to choose between their recovery effects. The build cost calculator helps follow material requirements across the equipment and stations you want to make.

Will Deep North appear in your old world?

Existing worlds remain playable, but new biome generation works properly in areas that have not been explored. A northern area you visited before 1.0 is therefore a different case from an untouched area. Starting a fresh world is the recommended way to see the update without that constraint.

You do not have to discard an established home merely because 1.0 released. Decide whether preserving that world or experiencing a newly generated north matters more for this run. Find the save with the save file location guide before opening the saved world in the map.

Who is the Deep North boss?

Kall Fimbulbringer is the boss at the end of this progression. Read the Kall Fimbulbringer guide for the boss-specific preparation and encounter. This page covers reaching and preparing for the biome, so you can plan the journey without reading the entire fight in advance.
