Valheim trinkets: how to craft, equip and activate them
Valheim trinkets are equipment that grants a temporary effect when your adrenaline reaches its maximum. Equip a trinket, then build adrenaline during combat; its effect activates automatically. You can wear one trinket at a time. Neckstabber and Witch Crown are Deep North options, while Bronze Pendant and Heart of the Forest let you start using trinkets much earlier.
How do you equip and activate a trinket?
Equip the item from your inventory as you would other equipment. Equipping a different trinket replaces the one you are wearing. A trinket occupies its own equipment type, so you do not have to give up your utility item to wear it.
The trigger is a full adrenaline bar. You do not press the Forsaken power button to activate a trinket. When adrenaline fills, the equipped trinket's effect starts and adrenaline resets. If the same effect is already running, reaching full adrenaline refreshes its duration.
Hugin introduces this mechanic when you discover a trinket. Watch the adrenaline bar while fighting rather than expecting the item to apply its full effect permanently just because it is equipped.
Which trinket should you use?
Choose for the problem you want to solve. Health regeneration helps you recover between hits; stamina recovery helps you keep attacking or repositioning; eitr recovery serves magic weapons. Damage and resistance effects are more specific to your weapon and opponent.
| Trinket | What its effect helps with |
|---|---|
| Stamina regeneration | |
| Health regeneration | |
| Swimming speed and stamina cost | |
| Armour and a burst of health recovery | |
| Running speed and a burst of stamina recovery | |
| Resistance to blunt, slash and pierce damage | |
| Bow and spear skill, plus pierce damage | |
| Mace damage and a burst of health recovery | |
| Eitr regeneration | |
| Slash damage and a burst of stamina recovery | |
| A burst of health and stamina recovery | |
| Elemental and blood magic skill, plus eitr recovery | |
| Health recovery, armour and running/attack stamina cost | |
| Health, stamina and eitr recovery |
A trinket that strengthens mace damage is a poor reason to change an otherwise suitable bow loadout. Start with the weapon you plan to use, then choose an effect that supports that fight. Use the loadout and food planner to compare the rest of your equipment and food, and the weapon comparison to inspect damage against your target.
How do you craft your first trinket?
Bronze Pendant and Heart of the Forest are both crafted at a level 1 Forge. The pendant requires 5 Bronze, 1 Bear Trophy and 3 Ruby. Heart of the Forest requires 5 Bronze, 5 Ancient Seed and 1 Greydwarf Shaman Trophy. The material list matters: having Bronze alone does not make the two recipes equally accessible.
Open the trinket's item page for its ingredient sources and recipe. The build cost calculator follows crafting requirements when you want to plan the materials alongside the station and your other equipment.
What do Neckstabber and Witch Crown do?
Neckstabber speeds health regeneration, reduces stamina spent running and attacking, and gives an immediate health and armour boost. Witch Crown speeds health, stamina and eitr regeneration and gives an immediate stamina and eitr boost. Both require Bloodgold and are crafted at a level 1 Black Forge.
For a melee trip, Neckstabber's stamina-cost reductions are relevant to staying active in combat. For a mixed stamina/eitr loadout, Witch Crown addresses both resources. Their item pages carry the separate ingredient lists; use the Deep North guide to plan the journey that supplies those materials.
