Valheim board game: Standard vs Deluxe and where to buy
Valheim: The Board Game is MOOD Publishing's cooperative tabletop adaptation of Valheim for one to four players. Standard lists creature and boss standees; Deluxe lists wooden resource tokens and house components, but its enemy-piece descriptions conflict. Confirm the exact box contents before choosing an edition. It is a separate physical game; buying the video game does not give you the tabletop box.
Is there a Valheim board game?
Yes. MOOD Publishing offers Valheim: The Board Game in Standard and Deluxe editions. Look for the main game box when shopping: accessories such as dice, sleeves, a mat or printable miniature files are separate products.
The tabletop adaptation brings equipment, food, resources, creatures and Forsaken into a board-and-card format. Its listed components include player boards, a main board, game tiles, equipment and food cards, resource tokens and boss arenas. The video game's keyboard controls and real-time combat are not rules for the tabletop version.
Can you play solo, and how does a session work?
You can play alone or with a group of up to four. A session centres on a scenario: explore, gather resources, improve equipment and the homestead, then summon and defeat its Forsaken. Scenarios can be played separately or linked in campaign mode. Completing the scenario objective and defeating the Forsaken are the goal; the event deck puts pressure on your preparation.
What is different between Standard and Deluxe?
| Edition | Main component distinction | Who should consider it? |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Creature and Forsaken standees, double-layered player boards and cardboard resource tokens | A group primarily interested in playing the tabletop game |
| Deluxe | Wooden resource tokens and house components; confirm whether the enemy pieces are miniatures or standees | Players who value the component upgrades confirmed for their box |
Both product pages list Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass and Moder among their Forsaken components. Do not assume that a box includes every boss added to the video game through Deep North. Check its actual contents if your purchase depends on a particular creature or expansion.
MOOD's Deluxe listing gives conflicting enemy-piece descriptions: its component overview shows creature and Forsaken miniatures, while its retail description lists enemy standees. If miniatures are why you would pay extra, get confirmation of the exact edition's contents before ordering. Do not assume a retail box matches a crowdfunding edition.
Choose the tabletop format first, then decide whether the confirmed component upgrades matter to your group. The edition name alone does not settle that choice.
Where can you buy it, and is it in stock?
Check the Standard edition or Deluxe edition product page for the edition, language, destination and delivery terms that apply to your order. The Valheim collection also lists accessories separately.
Availability can differ by language and destination. A displayed order button does not establish that a particular retailer has your edition ready for immediate shipment. Confirm whether the order is for current stock or a preorder before paying, and compare the total delivered cost rather than a price copied from an older announcement.
Do you need to own the video game?
The board-game box and Valheim's digital releases are separate purchases. A tabletop session uses its own boards, cards, tokens and rules; your digital character and world save do not turn into a board-game campaign.
Knowing the digital progression can make the names familiar. The Valheim boss order guide explains that digital journey, while the trinket guide covers equipment in the video game. Use the tabletop rulebook for tabletop effects, costs and combat rather than borrowing the values from an item page here.
What should you check before choosing a box?
Confirm the printed language, edition contents, whether accessories are included or separate, and the seller's shipping date for your destination. Read the rules supplied for that edition before deciding whether its session structure suits your group. Those checks matter more than treating an old crowdfunding announcement as a current availability promise.
